Why STA Loves Connecting with Teachers

From Classroom to Convention Hall

by Lynnse Self

Have you even been fortunate enough to attend a local or national teaching convention for your district? As a former teacher, I always felt that conventions could be fulfilling as well as a place where creativity gets reignited and inspiration flows freely. For me, there was a feeling of excitement inside that came with knowing I would be surrounded by other teachers (iron sharpens iron), listening to an inspirational keynote speaker, all while getting the chance to learn about new and best practices to implement in my classroom. When the chance arose, I jumped at the opportunity to attend any convention my school would allow, and while attending, I absorbed as much information as possible to implement it in my classroom.

Fast forward a few years, and I made the leap from teaching to working with School Tours of America. Suddenly, I was back at conventions, but this time on the other side of the booth. It has been such a special full-circle moment: getting to share the life-changing adventure that is student travel and showing educators how to say, “Let’s Go,” expanding their classroom walls and transforming their students’ lives.

If you attend teacher conferences, please check to see if we are exhibiting and stop by to visit us! Let’s be honest, we offer the best swag in the biz, give away fantastic prizes, and have fun, knowledgeable, passionate people at our booth to guide you in the right direction for your students.

Just imagine the possibilities: drama teachers taking their kids to Broadway to see a show, then enjoying a workshop with the cast. STEM teachers exploring bioluminescent bays in Puerto Rico, followed by a hike through the rainforest that ends with a slide down a waterfall. History teachers and their students throwing tea in Boston Harbor, walking the vaunted halls of the US Capitol, or sitting in a longhouse in the Powhatan Village in Jamestown.

We know that stepping away from your classroom can be overwhelming. Finding a sub, prepping lessons, and praying that your students behave while you are gone. However, making the decision to say, “Let’s Go” and expanding those classroom walls will ignite a passion inside you and give your students memories they will never forget.

So, the next time you are at a convention, stop by the School Tours of America booth. Let’s chat, dream, and plan your next adventure. Together, we will help you say, “LET’S GO”!
