A Washington, D.C. Trip to Remember
by Kristy D
Our trip to Washington, D.C. was an unforgettable experience that brought history to life in ways no textbook ever could. From iconic landmarks to meaningful conversations, every moment felt purposeful and inspiring.
Touring inside the White House was truly amazing. Being able to stand in such a historic place was powerful in itself, but what made it even more special was the opportunity to ask questions directly to the Secret Service. Their insights gave us a deeper appreciation for the role they play and the responsibility that comes with protecting such an important symbol of our country.
One of the biggest advantages of our trip was the time we saved by having reserved entry times for both the U.S. Capitol and the National Archives. Skipping long lines allowed us to focus on learning and exploring instead of waiting, and it helped keep the day running smoothly. Seeing the founding documents up close was a meaningful moment that reinforced lessons we’ve discussed in class.
Perhaps the most impactful stop for my students was Mount Vernon. Visiting the plantation made history feel real and personal. Walking the grounds and learning about daily life there helped students better understand the complexities of the past. It sparked thoughtful questions, meaningful conversations, and a deeper connection to the people and events we study.
This trip reminded me why experiences like these matter so much. Washington, D.C. didn’t just teach us history—it helped us feel it.
I will lead this trip for many years to come because SCHOOL TOURS OF AMERICA is the best travel planner!
